Following in the footsteps of its Kmart neighbor, the BI-LO supermarket on Calhoun Memorial Highway in Easley will close within weeks.

The store, which opened in 1988, is scheduled to close on or before April 22, said BI-LO spokeswoman Michelle Lisotto.

"We are deliberately fine-tuning our company and network of stores so that we can reinvest in what matters most for our customers —providing the freshest foods and the best deals," she said in an emailed statement.

An average store employs about 60, Lisotto said, and the workers from this Easley location will "have the opportunity to pursue other open positions in nearby stores."

The Easley location is one of three BI-LO stores that are closing. The other two are in Savannah.

The BI-LO at 1021 S. Pendleton St. will remain open.

Jacksonville-based BI-LO currently operates 211 stores in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.
