A Greenville man is accused of kidnapping a woman and holding her captive for days while she was beaten and assaulted, authorities said.

James Cyle Medlin, 32, of 3201 White Horse Road, Lot 9, was charged with kidnapping, attempted murder, criminal sexual conduct — first degree and criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, according to warrants and online jail records.

Warrants allege Medlin held the victim against her will for several days and brutally assaulted her "in such a manner where the victim's life was in imminent peril."

The defendant and victim used to live together, warrants said.

The victim, who was eventually able to escape, told investigators that the suspect had threatened to "hurt everybody she lived with" if she didn't do as she was told, said Greenville County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jonathan Smith.

"She believed him," Smith said.

Medlin was arrested earlier this week and booked into the Greenville County Detention Center, where he remained Wednesday without bond, according to jail records.
