Republican presidential candidate John Kasich will greet voters in the Upstate after all.

The Ohio governor’s campaign said he would appear at Mutt’s BBQ, 214 East Butler Road, in Mauldin beginning at noon on Saturday before joining other GOP presidential candidates at Greenville’s Peace Center Saturday night for a nationally televised debate.

An initial schedule released by the Kasich campaign Tuesday morning included nine stops in South Carolina from Wednesday to Friday, none of them in the deeply conservative, vote-rich Upstate.

An update to the schedule released Thursday listed the Mauldin event.

Also Thursday, the Kasich campaign said it would begin television advertising in South Carolina on Friday and announced that state Rep. Donna Hicks of Boiling Springs had endorsed Kasich.

In addition, Kasich strategist John Weaver told reporters on a conference call that the campaign would spend Monday and Tuesday in Michigan, which he said has a “kindred spirit” with Ohio economically and politically.

State Rep. Gary Clary of Pickens is another state lawmaker from the Upstate who has endorsed Kasich.
