Crews on Monday took away the sculpture put in place for the 10th anniversary of Artisphere, a temporary move until a permanent base can be installed.

The base wasn't completed in time for the unveiling in May. The sculpture was removed so a permanent lower part can be put in place, according to Kerry Murphy, Artisphere's executive director. That is expected by the end of the month.

The dedication of the sculpture "10 Artispheres," by noted Upstate artist John Acorn, marked the 10th anniversary of the outdoor festival.

Murphy told GreenvilleOnline.com that the sculpture was removed so that a base may be poured.

Once that is complete, the sculpture will be re-installed, Murphy said. The bottom of the sculpture, once on the base, will be level with the adjacent sidewalk and street, Murphy said.
