Haley appoints Mike Campbell to state post

COLUMBIA — Gov. Nikki Haley is appointing Mike Campbell to the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission.

Campbell, who ran unsuccessfully this year to become the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor, is a business development consultant.

“Mike Campbell is committed to making South Carolina a better place to live, work and raise a family, and I am confident that his professional background will serve the commission well,” said Gov. Nikki Haley. “As a small businessman and someone who cares deeply about his community, Mike’s experience will give him the insight needed to be both business-friendly and fair — exactly the qualities we want our commissioners to have.”

Campbell, the son of the late Gov. Carroll Campbell, will be paid $116,000 a year for his commission work, according to the Governor’s Office.

In 2003, Campbell was appointed to the governing board of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, where he served as vice-chairman. In addition, he also served as chairman of the Law Enforcement Advisory Committee for eight years.

Campbell is also a former member of the board of directors for the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Committee.
