Another Broken Egg sets opening date for Magnolia Park location

For those wondering what is happening with some of the other restaurants planned for Magnolia Park, here's at least one answer for you: Another Broken Egg Café is on track and will open Jan. 12.

The Greenville restaurant will be the first in the Upstate for the Louisiana-based company. There is already Another Broken Egg in Charleston and several in Charlotte, but Stuart Ottinger saw potential in Greenville as well.

"Over the years we've had a lot of feedback from customers to come to Greenville," says Ottinger, president of Double R Restaurant Group, which owns 17 Another Broken Egg locations. "So that's a main reason outside of the quite obvious – Greenville being one of the fastest growing cities, strong job market and being a great city for young professional. That fits in with our concept and our growth strategy to imbed our footprint into the Carolinas."

Another Broken Egg started out as one restaurant, Broken Egg Café, in Mandeville, Louisiana, in 1996. The second location, called Another Broken Egg, opened in Destin, Florida in 1998. Today, there are 34 locations across the Southeast, with another 75 slated for the next five years.

The café brings together breakfast and lunch into an all-day feast - you can get either anytime during operating hours, which for now are set to be 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. daily – in a relaxed atmosphere.

The menu offers some traditional items – omelets, eggs, sandwiches – but with some noticeable Louisiana influence. The biscuit beignets, for one. This appetizer combines the traditional sweet treat and the traditional Southern staple.

The Mardi Gras Omelette takes the Cajun influence one step further by infusing Andouille sausage, crawfish and a tomato hollandaise into an omelet.

"Our unique menu is really what sets us apart," Ottinger says. "We take a blend of breakfast classics with a southern Cajun Creole twist."

While Another Broken Egg serves breakfast all day, you can also get lunch anytime. So that burger you crave at 8 in the morning can now be a reality.

"So it's great if you have a group," Ottinger says.

The lunch side includes a variety of specialty burgers, sandwiches and salads like the southwest-influenced Santa Fe burger and the southern shrimp salad, with grilled shrimp, berries, sprouts and feta.

Vegetarians will find a few options as well. The Bella-which is a mix of roasted Bella mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, spinach and feta cheese.

Another distinguishing feature is the full bar that is part of all Broken Egg locations. That means that yes, you can get mimosas and bloody marys with your breakfast or lunch.

When it opens, the 3,400-square-foot restaurant space will seat about 150, with room for more on a covered outdoor patio.

Ottinger iterates that now that the restaurant is in Greenville, it will be part of the community. The business will partner with two local charities, St. Francis Women's Hospital and the Greenville Humane Society, during its opening. Members of those organizations will be invited to try the restaurant for free in the days preceding its opening. In addition, Another Broken Egg will raise donations during the opening days as well, all of which will be donated to the adopted charities.

"It's a great way to make our stamp in the community with our concept, and give back to the community that we'll be a part of for many years to come," Ottinger says.
