Savannah Nabors, a former staffer at the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, is suing Sheriff Will Lewis.

Savanah Nabors, the former Greenville County Sheriff's Office staffer who is suing Sheriff Will Lewis, had previously worked at a Greenville law firm, according to a LinkedIn account.

The LinkedIn account says Nabors, 23, attended Liberty and Clemson universities and was employed as a paralegal at Bannister, Wyatt and Stalvey Law Firm.

Lewis worked as a legal investigator at the same law firm prior to his run for office, according to Lewis’ LinkedIn account. Previous efforts to reach the firm for comment were unsuccessful.

Nabors was hired as an administrative coordinator for the Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 5, 2016, according to Greenville County human resources.

In the lawsuit against Lewis, Nabors said her job consisted of “going everywhere the Sheriff went,” so she could record all of his meetings and “contribute outsider’s perspective to law enforcement decision making.”

Nabors has alleged that Lewis sexually assaulted her in her hotel room while on an out-of-town business trip. The Greenville News does not normally identify victims of sexual assault, but Nabors went public with the allegations earlier this year in a letter posted on a website, jacksonpinefarm.com.

The suit alleges Nabors was terminated from her job after April 24 because she "refused to tolerate sexual advances by the Sheriff."

On May 2, the suit says Nabors drove herself to Spartanburg Mental Health and saw a counselor, who referred her to other medical providers "for what appeared to be symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder."

Nabors “continues to receive mental health treatment to this day."

The suit goes on to say that Nabors tried to tell her story on a website operated by her sister, which includes a blog section that “allows victims of tragedies to speak up and let people know what they have been through.”

Nabors also attempted to publish a book about her account of what happened to try to earn some income while also inspiring other women to come forward, the lawsuit says.

The suit says Nabors took down the blog post and abandoned the book idea “under the fear that she would be sued for defamation, despite the fact that all of the information that she provided was true and was a matter of important public interest.”

Nabors currently lives in Jacksonville, Florida.
