The driver of a pickup that crashed into a freight truck in Pickens County earlier this month died in the hospital Friday, troopers said.

The collision happened about 11:40 a.m. on Aug. 18 on South Mulberry Road, west of Easley, said Trooper Joel Hovis of the South Carolina Highway Patrol

A GMC pickup was heading south on Mulberry when it struck a freight truck crossing the road in the right rear side, Hovis said.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries Friday, Hovis said.

The Pickens County Coroner's Office hasn't yet released the decedent's name.

The freight truck driver, a 30-year-old from Spartanburg, wasn't injured, troopers said.
