Former Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd turned himself in to police Tuesday morning in connection with an altercation outside of a bar in July, the Greenville Police Department said.

Boyd, 25, of Seneca, was charged with assault and battery, according to an arrest warrant. He pushed a bouncer in the chest on the night of July 14 outside of On the Roxx, located at 734 S. Main St., in downtown Greenville, according to a police report.

"Tajh certainly regrets his involvement in the situation and looks forward to quickly putting this behind him," Boyd's attorney, Beattie Ashmore, told The Greenville News.

The doorman told Boyd the club was at capacity and he would have to wait in line just like everyone else, according to a police report based on the victim's account. An argument ensued and the doorman told Boyd he needed to leave.

Boyd then "shoved him with two hands in his chest causing him to fly through the door way knocking another female and himself to the ground," according to the police report.

Police took out the warrant Friday. Boyd turned himself in Tuesday morning, Officer Gilberto Franco said. Ashmore said he was released on an unsecured bond.

The victim said he did not report the incident immediately because he wanted to speak with his attorney.

Boyd was the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year in 2012. He set conference records for passing yards (11,904) and passing touchdowns (107) during his three years as the Tigers' starter.

On Wednesday, Boyd's marketing agent, Andy Sink, released a statement.

“Tajh Boyd would love to be able to comment on the details of the allegations arising from the incident reported yesterday, but due to ongoing legal ramifications he is not able to do so at this time. Tajh’s first concern in this matter was the impact that this situation may have on the children he has had the opportunity to mentor along with those that simply look up to him for his athletic achievements or community involvement. He asks that everyone be patient and let this situation unfold rather than rushing to judgment.

“Tajh will not let this stop the momentum that he and his foundation have gained in the effort to embrace this community and make a difference in the lives of our state’s youth. He looks forward to growing from this and embraces it as an opportunity to educate. He is very encouraged by the outpouring of support he has received from friends, family, fans and strangers, and wants to thank you all.”

On the Roxx on Tuesday afternoon released a statement about the case on its Facebook page. The business said it will continue to cooperate with authorities but directed all questions to the complainant.

"In reference to the recent charges brought against Tajh Boyd, On the Roxx is not pressing charges nor did On the Roxx bring these allegations to the attention of the police. This incident transpired between an independent contractor hired to work the front door who personally filed charges against Mr. Boyd of his own accord without On the Roxx prior knowledge."
