A chance encounter on a later flight home from Washington, D.C. had Sen. Lindsey Graham changing his tune on an earlier cancellation.

The Senator shared a story about the experience on Facebook Thursday afternoon. Graham said he ended up catching a Thursday morning flight on which he was seated next to Army Capt. D.J. Fredericks, who happens to be the son of the principal at Townville Elementary School.

Sen. Graham says Fredericks was flying home to be with his mother during the difficult time following Wednesday's shooting. He said he even had the opportunity to speak with Fredericks' mom before taking off.

"She was full of praise for her teachers, the school nurse who acted heroically in helping those who were shot, and how awesome volunteer firefighter Jamie Brock was. She constantly stressed how proud she was of her teachers, students, and how much she was praying for their recovery."

Sen. Graham went on to praise the teachers, first responders and soldiers, like Fredericks, who are working for good in our world.

He said it was one of the few times in his life he was glad his flight had been canceled.
