How events played out in Townville

People gather at Townville Elementary School on Wednesday afternoon after two students and a teacher were shot.

According to authorities, a 14-year-old shot his 47-year-old father, Jeffrey Dewitt Osborne, multiple times as he sat on the couch in his den at their home on Osborne Road on Wednesday.

The gunman drove a pickup to Townville Elementary where he crashed into a chain-link fence and opened fire on a teacher and students heading out for recess.

A Townville Elementary teacher called 911 at 1:45 p.m. to report a gunman at the school and one student shot.

Townville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Billy McAdams and firefighter Jamie Brock were working in the field of McAdams' farm when they heard the call and headed toward the school.

Osborne's parents received a cellphone call from their grandson who was “crying and distraught.”

Osborne's parents discovered their son dead at his Osborne Road home and called 911.

The first responders to arrive at the school, McAdams began giving CPR to kindergartner Jacob Hall. Meanwhile, Brock went in search of the gunman. Unarmed, the volunteer firefighter confronted him outside and subdued him at 2 p.m.

One student was transported by Life-Flight to Greenville Hospital System’s Pediatric Trauma Center where he was listed in critical condition.

One student and a teacher were transported by EMS to AnMed Hospital in Anderson where they were treated and released.

Students, teachers and on-scene parents were taken by school bus to the Oakdale Baptist Church located on Hwy. 24 in Townville.
