60,000 pounds of beer spills into roadway after Simpsonville man crashes in Florida

A Simpsonville man driving a tractor-trailer full of beer crashed on an interstate in Florida early Wednesday.

A Simpsonville man driving a tractor-trailer full of beer crashed on an interstate in Florida early Wednesday, leaving beer cans and cases scattered across the roadway.

Michael Nolan Powell, 44, was driving a tractor-trailer west on Interstate 10 in Okaloosa County, Florida around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday when he veered off the roadway and into the shoulder before overturning, according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

He suffered minor injuries, according to the release. He was wearing a seat belt, the release states.

An estimated 60,000 pounds of Busch beer was thrown from the trailer, the release states.

Powell was charged with careless driving, according to the release.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and shared pictures of the crash on its Facebook page. Powell's injuries were treated on scene, according to the Sheriff's Office's post.
